Yes, Dr. Darby always perform a thorough oral cancer screening of your entire mouth during regular checkups. The exam includes your teeth, gum tissues, jaw joints, and the bone structure around your teeth. This is an extremely important part of your routine oral health care because regular oral cancer screenings at our Huntsville dental office can help us detect the disease in its early stages, potentially saving a life.

Studies by the Oral Cancer Foundation indicate that nearly 50,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed in America each year. Unfortunately, the mortality rate associated with oral cancer is high. This is due to the fact that the cancer is often not discovered until it has progressed to the more advanced stages. With early detection, however, oral cancer is highly treatable.

Our oral cancer screenings take just a few minutes and are nothing to worry about. We will examine your teeth, lips, and gums for any signs of abnormalities. For instance, what looks like a normal white spot to you might be recognized by your dentist as precancerous. Please contact our Huntsville dental office and we'll be happy to arrange an exam and cleaning that includes an oral cancer screening.

At Flint River Dental, we take prevention very seriously. Routine exams and cleanings are preventive services we provide that are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

The American Dental Association recommends scheduling exams and cleanings twice a year. Patients with a history of oral health problems or periodontal disease may require more frequent cleanings. When we see you every six months, we have the best chance of preventing decay and gum disease from doing serious damage to your smile.

During your routine exams, we’ll perform a thorough visual exam and note any changes we see since your last visit. If necessary, we’ll take digital x-rays to identify problems deep within your teeth. We use digital x-rays because they’re more efficient and, most importantly, expose you to significantly less radiation than traditional film x-rays.

Professional cleanings are another essential preventive service that work with your at-home oral hygiene efforts to keep your teeth and gums healthy. During your cleaning, our hygienist removes the plaque and tartar that sit on your teeth and cause periodontal disease. We will treat any signs of infection and recommend a treatment plan to prevent it from reoccurring.

Without any doubt, staying current with exams and cleanings is the most important thing you can do to ensure a healthy smile. If it’s time for your next cleaning, please call our Huntsville dental office and we’ll be happy to schedule a convenient appointment.

At Flint River Dental, we’re pleased to provide our patients with the convenience of both implant placement and restoration here in our Huntsville office. Dr. Darby has invested many hours studying dental implant placement and has performed dozens of implant procedures. Using her skill and expertise, she can replace a single tooth or perform a full mouth reconstruction.

After your implant is expertly placed, we have all the experience necessary to create a durable restoration to return the tooth to its full function. A restoration may include a crown, bridge, or dentures.

Our team knows that having a dental implant placed can often be a bit overwhelming. We are sensitive to your feelings about this, and we do everything possible to make sure you are completely comfortable before, during, and after the procedure. You never have to worry about experiencing any discomfort, as we are trained to administer various types of sedation to help you stay calm and relaxed. All dental implant patients receive complimentary sedation at Flint River Dental.

We know that you probably have lots of questions about oral surgery, and we are always available to provide any information you need. Please contact our office, and we will be happy to arrange a consultation so that we can discuss your particular case.

We recommend you bring your child to see us as soon as they start getting their baby teeth but no later than age one. Dr. Darby and our team have lots of experience working with very young children. Our goal is to ensure that they have a positive experience every time they visit us at our Huntsville dental office. Ensuring that your child's first experiences are positive sets the stage for a lifetime of proactive oral health care.

During the first visit, our goal is to meet your child and show them that visiting the dentist will be fun. Kids learn by example and if we can show them that these visits aren’t a big deal, they’ll respond accordingly. We’ll give them a ride in the chair, count their teeth, and show them how to hold a toothbrush properly.

We understand how important it is that we gradually get your child used to being around us in the office environment. Our professional team takes all the time necessary to treat your children with the special attention they need to help them feel safe and secure.

Your child’s first visit to the dentist is just one of many big steps in their young lives. Please contact our Huntsville dental office and we’ll be happy to arrange a visit so you can get to know our caring team.

Dental anxiety is very common and affects millions of people. The team at Flint River Dental is sensitive to your concerns, and we’ve helped hundreds of patients overcome their fears.

Our first priority is your complete comfort. We know that if you always feel comfortable with us, you’re more likely to keep up with routine dental visits. And those visits are essential if you want to minimize your risk for developing complicated dental problems.

We’re pleased to offer very effective sedation options to allow you to get the important treatments you need. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is very mild and will put you in a relaxed and dreamy state. The advantage of using nitrous is that there are no lingering effects. You can have your treatment done and then go on with your busy day.

If you’d like a little more help relaxing, we offer oral sedation. In this case, Dr. Darby would prescribe a sedative for you to take before you get to our office. When you arrive for your procedure, you will already feel more calm and relaxed. Dr. Darby will give you additional medication when you arrive, and you will be closely monitored throughout your appointment. Just remember that you will need a driver to get you safely to and from our office.

Please give us a call if you’d like to learn more about our comfortable sedation options.
